Dehydration

I would question the stated health benefits of water consumption.
Show me some hard evidence (robust clinical studies), and I may change my attitude towards the fashionable "water torture," the press and health facist's advocate.

Happened to notice this topic, as to how easy it is to get dehydrated.

Finally, an explanation to my thirst for beer!

Ok guys, more seriously this time. I have recently transitioned to a more complex jet. I have noticed several of the symptoms that were mentioned regarding dehydration. I have to admit I rarely drink as much water as what you guys are saying I need. Since, I started flying this airplane I have felt far more tired by the last day of a trip then I ever did in my previous aircraft. I have always thought it was due to the increased complexity of this aircraft. That really does not make sense though, because now I have an autopilot and I am only flying 2-5 legs a day. The dehydration scenario is plausible since now I am flying in the much drier flight levels. I am starting a three day trip today and will do my best to drink the minimum amount of water that you guys describe. I will let you know how it works out. (and how many times I have to run to the lav, if you want to know :o)

bbb, absolutely nothing wrong with heading to the heads...
And nothing wrong either with ensuring your kidneys are working well by over-watering them! BTW, drinking more on board will, of course, also help avoid DVT by (a) thinning the blood and (b) getting your leg muscles exercised by the little stroll.

Well, I am back from my trip. I have to admit that I did have a very easy three day trip. Every leg left on-time. So, I am not sure if all the water is to blame for the fact that I felt great. I will give it a bit longer with this test. I did have to plan my restroom trips well. I also noticed if I consumed a lot of water before my duty period started I ran to the restroom more often than if I only consumed a lot of water enroute. Perhaps, this is because my body needed the water in flight more? Well, thanks for giving me another rationalization tool to explain my stupid mistakes. My FO and I had a blast blaming everything on dehydration.
