Oops - wrong airport

Interesting article from the Royal Aeronautical Society

Makes me feel better about the time I did it flying solo as a low hour PPL.

The article is interesting but little more than 'churnalism'. Furthermore, it provides little in the way of mitigation of re-occurrence because of the way the article was written. It starts with the landings at the unintended destinations and works backwards from there, bundling them all together. This is an appropriate methodology some investigations, but not all. Separating them I'm sure we will see that were similar contributory factors in many of these flights but there are also some extreme odd-balls. I'd therefore suggest that this article should be ignored. But there again, what do we expect to come out of a West End drinking club?

PS. It's very easy to land at the wrong airport or on the wrong bit of tarmac.

I take it you aren't a member then.

There isn't even a bar any more except for particular events. More's the pity.

I don't disagree about the lack of incisive journalism, but like review papers in journals, these things have value as a discussion starter or common reference.
