hypoxia incidents

Interesting...

Occurrence Summary : Feb 25

The eastbound Aerodynamics Worldwide Inc Cessna 208B aircraft (N208AJ), operating as flight ADL208 enroute from Goose Bay to Narsarsuaq Greenland, failed to report to air traffic control at 50W. Gander International Flight Services Station, as well as two other aircraft, unsuccessfully attempted to contact ADL208. Descent clearance to leave Gander Oceanic and enter Sondrestrom Flight Information Region (FIR) was issued several times. After repeated contact attempts by other aircraft, ADL208 reported at 7500 ASL, in Sondrestrom FIC. The pilot of ADL208 appeared incoherent and was unable to properly communicate. The aircraft had difficulty navigating to Narsarsuaq Airport, but landed without further incident.

Occurrence Summary : Mar 31

Gander high level domestic (Gander) was contacted by an aircraft concerning a blind transmission that they received from another oceanic aircraft at FL250. It was reported that the oceanic aircraft was descending due to an incapacitated pilot. Gander attempted to contact the only aircraft that was at FL250 in that area, a Beech 99 (ADL99, registration N4381Y), owned by Aerodymamics Worldwide Inc. Gander attempted contact directly and through other aircraft. Contact was finally made through an Air Canada flight (ACA883). It was reported that ADL99 had descended to FL190 without clearance because the captain was incapacitated or possibly hypoxic, and that the captain was interfering with flight operations. After Gander made direct contact with ADL99, ADL99 declared Pan Pan and descended to FL140. Subsequently, ADL99 advised that both pilots were now OK and that contact had been made with Sondrestrom. The flight continued without further incident to Narsarsuaq. A similar event (AOR 143375-V1, TSB A12A0038) took place on 25 February 2012 with the same operator. According to ATS and the flight plans, for the 25 February and this occurrence, the flights had the same captain.
