Books on Leadership/Command
Hello,
I was looking for a few books on leadership and command and was hoping for some reviews and opinions from pilots' perspectives and perhaps Captains who had read some in preparation for their first command.
Amazon has the ubiquitous 'Fate is the Hunter' but it also has:
Aircraft Command Techniques
Flight Discipline
Redefining Airmanship
Any other books that people can reccomend about relevant leadership and command would be appreciated too.

Ps. Perhaps modifying this and making it a sticky might help others searching for similar things? Maybe a PPRuNe book review thread?

I've read no's 1, 3 & 4 of your list and recommend all of them.
Have you got command training coming up? If so the fact that you are researching relevant books to read indicates to me that you have the right frame of mind and attitude to succeed.

There is a book called "19 Platoon" (The author will come to me in a bit).
Its about a young officers fight through Europe in the Second World War. Its all about Leadership and Grace Under Pressure.
It is one of the books that is always referred to at Sandhurst.

Tony Kern is the best!
I can suggest Redifining Airmanship, is a complete review of what Airmanship is, with so many case studies...even Flight Discipline is good but the first one is much more exhaustive, i bought even "Commander and Crew" P.Denucci but, in my opinion, is too short and dispersive...
Even some author writing about PNL is interesting, like "Coaching and Leadership" A.Deering, is very technical and specific....

Norman F Dixon on "The Psychology of Military Incompetence" is very instructive, even if he is more than a little biased in his views.
Leadership has never been better described than the Mask of Command by Prof John Keegan. In fact there isnt a better military history book than Face of Battle by Prof Keegan.
Apollo The Race to the Moon (Charles Murray and Catherine Bly Cox) is the handbook of management of complicated organisations.
