FRMS

Hi all,

I am just wondering what other airlines have in place for fatigue risk management( policies/studies etc), Do your crew attend courses or is it dealt with at CRM?

Any info would be greatly received.

Operators and/or individuals can read the references below; note the hyperlinks within them: -
Fatigue and
Managing Jet Lag.

Airbus publishes an excellent manual – "Getting to Grips with Fatigue and Alertness"; available via Flight operation aviation library on SmartCockpit.

Fatigue

Sure we cover Fatigue on CRM but Fatigue Risk Management is a bit more than can be covered in CRM.

Have a look at Clockwork Research - Fatigue Risk Management Specialists

They also run a course on behalf of the JAA Training Organization

(and, no, I don't work for them!)

No FRMS take into account lifestyle and commuting (eg babies/kids/pers admin/road conditions/accommodation quality etc) - which, to have prevented Buffalo, they would have to have done. When that happens, FRMSs will become a very valuable safety tool. Until then, however, they are a bit of a gimmick (IMHO) that can allow unscrupulous rostering depts to work us harder!
FRMS should be used in conjunction with the FTLs until that time - and the most limiting of either duty-times should be applied - much to the annoyance of the rosterers!
