Safety benefits of aircraft tracking

Has anyone considered the safety aspects of fitting an approved tracking system to an aircraft? Surely the Search aspect of SAR becomes redundant, and from what I've read, some systems are now so sophisticated they almost provide a FDR for GA aircraft.

See tracplus.co.nz is fitted into most rescue helicopters in New Zealand and is proving very popular.
