Max, if that is/was the case for all airlines the anomaly might not exist.
In reference to this:
I have been told that at least one airline may pay pilots an on-time performance bonus, and at one time, was giving ramp grew similar incentives.
If the ability to trick the ACARS does not exist for any airline anymore, and the financial on-time incentives no longer exist, then this indeed would be a non-issue.
I only hope to learn if this potential safety hazard has been effectively eliminated from the industry.
In reference to this:
No need to be "on time" and play ACARS acrobatics.
Airlines never paid bonus to crew for ON TIME operations.

Our company has a specific procedure where you can release the brakes after the aircraft is all closed up, tug attached, and you are waiting due to an ATC delay.
I have no problem with this... its is an organised, understood procedure with both pilot and engineer being on the "same page" knowing what will happen.
In these circumstances, you are ready to push, so there should be no people or vehicles around to be run over.
If crew are 'tricking' the ACARS system without ensuring the wheels are chocked first, then they're idiots. There is nothing unsafe about releasing the park brake... its only an issue when ground staff are not aware it is going to happen.
The REAL safety issue (if there is one) is having crew on OTP bonuses of any nature, and I would hope that this doesn't occur in the civilised world!

I'd be curious to know what mechanisms are currently used to keep the aircraft stationary when the brakes are released prematurely?
Also, it does seem that OTP incentives were used until recently in some "civilized" countries, I do not know if they still are ... anyone?
