Pilot Monitoring Form
Hello,
We are Pilot School, and to introduce the students from begining of pilot training to the environment of multi crew we decided to make another student in the back seat to monitor the other student & we Developed a pilot monitoring form for that purpose till now its for the private pilot & we will develop more for CPL , IR , ME.
what everbody think abput this idea & if have any suggestions to the form post it.

My question on the use of this form by a second observer student would be about what terms of reference the observing student will have in order to critique the performance of PF.
If the observing student is vastly advanced in his/her training then it might work. If not, the phrase "the blind leading the blind" comes to mind.
In other words, do two students at the same point in their training have enough experience, ability, technique etc to critique each others performance?
And that ignores any question of the possibly effects of extra weight in the aircraft, distraction from behind PF etc

The PM will only observe and not allowed to for any kind of distractions and don't forget there is a Flight Instructor onboard also, secondly If you look to the evaluation method its not that kind like completion standard with +-100 ft for example its using a positive method of evaluation and at the end of the flight the PF & PM will switch their positions & vice versa as we see here this method will enhance the communication between the students in flight tasks and will build this habit inside them from the beginning to work as a team. One of the suggestions here the PM will read the checklist as requested by the PF for each phase of the flight.

Does this CRM idea really prepare the student for the PPL checkride? I would think it more important for the student pilot to get used to his own procedures and checklists without the help of anyone else - as he won't have a PM on his checkride.
While I applaud the idea of introducing CRM early in student training, I would think that PPL study should be geared to getting a pilot thinking for himself and used to single pilot operation.
The CRM interaction can then be used effectively between two pilots when each has developed his/her own style, procedures etc.
I see a danger in developing reliance on another pilot too early on in training - they won't be there when the student is doing the solo XC requirements for example.
I'll be interested to see what others think. I wonder if this thread might be better in Professional Pilot Training?
