WW is fighting for his career and job. He has seen the debacle and decided he can do better himself. By assuming full responsibility, directly, he lives or dies now by how the T4 --> T5 move goes.

Gareth Kirkwood and friend have paid with there jobs. WW has sacrificed them to try and save himself.

It is now Willie Walsh in the firing line and on deck. The question is, can he save himself, and can he save BA?

WHy does WW protest so much that he's hanging in there to 'get it sorted'. Why would anyone have one iota of confidence he'll get it right over the next 3mths when he couldn't manage it over the last 3yrs of build. He's quite clearly out of his depth. When the result goes in your favour (as I'm sure it will), presumeably BA/WW will appeal to the next level of court (house of lords?). Now the wait for that decision could take another couple of months. When they give their verdict (again in favour of the pilots), BA/WW will appeal to the European Court of....., lord knows how long the verdict will take.

Not a problem. The Open Skies pilots can be added to the Mainline Seniority List retrospectively based upon their OS date of joining.

Not wishing to sound flippant but probably when it's decided that it's legal to do so. The EU is fundamentally socialist and BA are trying to get round it's founding principles. If they choose to appeal, I have no doubt the European Courts would support the principles of their own existence (rights of the worker and all that) rather than a case which supports the contrary. No doubt the BALPA lawyers, who have been worth every penny so far, will already have a plan in place. There may even be a second ballot.... ;)

I think I phrased it badly, I guess the question was (succinctly)...would BALPA wait for all appeals to have finished before commencing a strike (if this is the case we could be waiting some time).

As for another ballot, that just makes sense. For all those members who were on the fence before, they are certainly not on the fence any more. Another ballot will be one in the eye for WW as he realises how he has alienated his workforce.

Don't think the new ballot will be to increase the yes vote (already pretty high - no need) but so BA cannot then claim that the result is now invalid due to the time elapsed since it took place.

It would also (should the result be repeated) mean creating another 28 day window, within which strike action may be commenced at any time. Rather than be forced into hurriedly announcing strike action to comply with the tail end of the postponed (due to legal action) window.

At this rate, these folks will be 'windowing' well into next year....:rolleyes:

The BALPA and BACC judgement throughout the whole OS debacle has, thus far, been faultless and i'm confident will continue to be so.

It's individuals who spout vitriol and tripe on this forum from a position of complete ignorance who serve only to make themselves look completely foolish..

I hope BA pilots do go on strike.

I've been out of work twice due to BA take overs; Dan Air and BRAL/BACX. I'm type rated on three of their mainline types and on the BAe146/RJ (Cityflyer). Two of those ratings are current (mainline types), so I would have thought that when the brothers unite and go on strike, I stand a fair chance at a job in mainline, assuming Willie is strong enough to tough it out. Willie will have to tough it out eventually, otherwise there wont be a BA.

On the subject of 411A. I used to think this bloke was some right wing nutter, perhaps a Ryanair Manager type. (without being unfair to RYR managers, they must know what they are doing - judge them by their results - but the industry perception is not good). Perhaps 411A has seen it all before and bases his opinions and forecasts on his experience and observations.

Anyway, go on strike BA pilots; the rest of the downtrodden independant sector pilots are lining up to take YOUR jobs.

In the thirty or so years I have been flying airliners, the pilots who got up my nose the most were those with attitudes like heavy heavy: ex fast jet pilots who talk in clipped tones with barely concealed arrogance about their previous life, in spite of the fact they were often flying outdated equipment while being paid peanuts. They then carry their backstabbing officer like qualities over to the airlines where, in their desire to compensate for failing to achieve in the service, they often crawl their way into management positions before being found out and someone else has to clear up the mess!
And the BA pilots, many of whom have over the years managed to conceal their below average flying skills in a large balpa driven system, while at the same time trying to prevent anyone else from queering their pitch, are only too happy to take jobs with these lesser airlines when they retire at 55.
These are the people who have helped to reduce the terms and conditions of all airline pilots.
