Keep going,Keep going,Keep going,Keep going,he's airborne, right "go around"

Johnny F@rt Pants 23rd Mar 2019 09:27

Maybe he was told to GA at that stage, otherwise it does look a little non-sensical.

fox niner 23rd Mar 2019 09:33

Reminds me of Heathrow.

sierra_mike 23rd Mar 2019 09:43

under certain wind conditions the jetblast of a just departed heavy can be pretty nasty in flare to a smaller type aircraft.

Jetman346 23rd Mar 2019 10:01

Thats just wrong, way to close

bar none 23rd Mar 2019 10:34

Where is that?

Waldo 23rd Mar 2019 10:36

Pretty normal spacing for Gatwick and Heathrow I would say

7p3i7lot 23rd Mar 2019 10:50

The heavies wake turbulence doesn't start until liftoff. By GA the next jet exposed himself to a possible wake event not to mention he has some very close spacing to the departing jet for ATC to handle (tower or departure).
Once I see the nose rotating of the aircraft ahead, he is committed to Take off and I can land. Until then I am loaded for the GA.
Close but nothing to unusual.

birdspeed 23rd Mar 2019 11:14

I don’t think it’s close at all. It looks close because the camera position and relative size difference of the B777 and B737. I think the landing B737 could easily have landed.

Perspective distortion (photography)

Hotel Tango 23rd Mar 2019 11:49

Perfectly standard at many busy airports, especially single runway operation. If anything, I'm surprised they made the decision to GA. They could in fact have landed without a problem. My bet is that they were "instructed" to GA by ATC and at that point they had to comply (because they are not to know if there's another unseen reason that ATC are giving them a GA instruction).

Intrance 23rd Mar 2019 12:21

You really can’t tell from this video due to perspective distortion and compression. He could be at 200ft DA for all we know.

To be honest, the jet exhaust disturbance immediately behind a 777 would make me think twice about landing so soon. Good call to turn right ASAP from the GA aircraft.

Wake turbulence starts at rotation. Turbulence from jet exhaust starts at throttle up.

Halfnut 23rd Mar 2019 16:43

The 777 was well into the air before the 737 would have touchdown.

I guess the 737 crew is paid by the minute and they were low on time for the month?

compressor stall 23rd Mar 2019 23:58

It’s close but as said above, the camera makes it look waaay too close as the whole depth of field is in focus.

Same principle as here.
