Mogadishu Cargo plane crash landing
Reports of an Egyptian Cargo plane crash landing in Carbiska Arbiska near Mogadishu. Reports saying an Airbus from Egypt.

AN12, 7 onboard all ok by the looks of it.
It was A300B4 SU-BMZ of Tristarairways of Egypt.http://aviation-safety.net/database/...?id=20151012-0
That AN12 was a file photograph. Aircraft involved was SU-BMZ, an Airbus A.300B4-203F, operated by Tristar Air. Looks like a write off.
6 onboard and all safe, no injuries, ran out of fuel after numerous attempts to land into HCMM.
im hearing the guy in the tower has now been arrested as he contributed to this.
well....that was their whole fleet...
Hmmm... there must be a thicker plot to this story. Mogadishu is not the place you go into without reserves and a plan B. While the fine land of Egypt is not exactly known for discipline and analytical thinking, even an Egyptian crew would have basic self-preservation instincts. Would be interesting to hear more details.

Military cargo plane crash lands outside Mogadishu after failed landing, all occupants safe - GOOBJOOG NEWS talks about a "suspected landing gear problem". |
Nail on the head
I vouch for andrasz solid advice, having operated there several times.
Just think what why its nicknamed "Mog"...should make your flight planning defensive...or..you might end up in the Morgue instead! |
andrasz is on the money here, the plot is thicker. MOG runway is not one that even an Egyptian crew would just turn upto unannounced, a slot time would of been granted by SCAMA.
MOG runway has no ILS, it only has 2 approaches, 23 and 05. the other problem is that the runway has no lights. i wouldn't believe what you read in the articles below, under carriage didn't break off till the emergency landing. better pics here Tristar Air cargo plane crash in Somalia - in pictures | The National |
Sorry, but as someone said before this just doesnt make any sense at all...On this picture it shows a patch of some harvest (maybe coffee beans?)drying in the sun on each side of the landing path(we can see another one in the distance), completely un-disturbed by the crash landing, as if the ac had been cautiously put there by a giant hand, without a single trace on the ground. WTF!!???.:confused::confused:

Mayhap they were sliding sideways.....
Whatever previous mistakes were made, it seems they pulled off a nice controlled crash.
Sure doesn't look like a recent crash site.
. |
this just doesnt make any sense at all... it seems they pulled off a nice controlled crash... There is a former military airstrip in the general area where they came down, maybe they were attempting to land on the disused runway (or may actually have). It still makes no sense to me what were they doing there with insufficient reserves to get back to Mombasa, or Lamu in the worst case. One thing is sure: price of cast aluminium pots will come down on the Mogadishu market in the coming weeks. |
