PAN at MAN
 

Is anyone able to divulge any more about the PAN, due an incapacitated Captain, into Manch this afternoon, and resulting runway blockage? Just curious as to why there is no other post on the subject.

It was an Air 2 Bob B767-300 with a "suspect nosewheel problem" [no steering] a/c landed and vacated the r/wy and taxied to stand...No runway blockage.....:rolleyes:

And actually part of tui travel now (although the First Choice name may live on).

We landed a few minutes before the pan aircraft. Didn't sound too dramatic. Planned to roll to the end, were able to taxi themselves so may have been a false alarm (not sure where the incapacitated capt or runway blockage comes into this...)

As I understood, captain incapacitated therefore unable to taxi off the runway, due tiller on the left. It sounds as if I was given duff gen.

Any Pilot Incap. at FCA would be declared a Mayday not a Pan! :hmm:

Unless my ears deceived me it was a pan and it was for a pilot incapacitation. Hope whoever it is gets well soon.

Spot on Nov 71. Was up at the AVP - Pan declared, aircraft landed without incident and rolled to the end of 23R exiting at link alpha to taxi to stand 215.

Even if Capt was incapacitated the F/O would be able to taxi off the runway at a highspeed exit with just the rudder pedals so blocked runway shouldnt come into it.

Command decision by the pilot on the spot who is in a better position to assess than any of us here on PO Prune :ok:

Airline SOPs do not allow this to happen , not even on the A320/1 where there is a tiller on the RH side . So the FO can land the plane but can't taxi the a/c after landing, this calls for a full stop on RWY and then radio for a tug

BASIL, yes the pilot in the seat is in a better position to judge than any of us here on pprune.

The recent censoring and slating of people on here is really p***ing me off lately. individuals are blasted for posting comments that are uninformed or unprofessional or slanderous etc etc.

this is a rumour network but unfortunately seems to be run by people who must have recently been on some sort of political correctness course.

PAN called at 14:50 as 'hydraulic problem'. Next day FCA issue press statement saying 'pilot illness'. Wonder which one was true????

Eagle21.........Im an FO for a major UK airline based at MAN and I landed the aircraft last night & taxied off the runway believe it or not. I think maybe you have been reading to many newspaper reports or watching TV where they seem suprised that Pilots (Captains) let FO's press buttons & touch things ! :eek:

Well Funderblaster I can tell you that at the mighty Spottyemm FOs do not taxi and are advised to sit on the runway and await a tug in the event of Capt incap (even on the FBW fleet that have a tiller on the RHS)...in fact that very thing happened at Athens a couple of years ago.

FOs are however encouraged to push plenty of buttons etc!

Why don't FOs taxi at spottyemm? Is it to keep SOP comonality across all fleets? :confused:

It has something to due with the insurance. Years ago the F/O's did taxi the aircraft but than we had a little incident and now the F/O's are not allowed to taxi anymore. Not even with a trainer sitting in the LHS.:ugh:

First go you get a taxing the aircraft is during the upgrade from the RHS to the LHS.

When I said airline SOPs I meant at FCA.
I also taxi the a/c, park and start the engines for your info and I don't give it much importance. Believe me I am very bussy flying to some very interesting destination to be watching TV.

I am also very bussy THINKING before I post anything on pprune, not like you!
