I mention these only to stir an already bubbling pot:

1. bmi (who kindly pay my mortgage) have the inestimable advantages of i.) not having been on the ropes before Sept. 11th, and ii) having management with at least the sense not to do anything precipitate, as others would seem to have.

2. bmi and Virgin have been to 'final negotiations' twice in the past re: merger/takeover. I reckon at least one of us might be going cheap soon, and it won't be the blue one.

Meantime, all the very best to all colleagues who have lost their jobs or are worried sick about keeping them.

You haven't seen me, right?

So a VS/BM merger then? or BM to take the UK 51% sharing the other 49% with SQ, also a Star member.

Bishop was on BBC World talking about consolidation, that word was also in the business section of the Times last week

Lets face it, VS are dangerously exposed with a reputed 70 % plus of their revenue generated on the North Atlantic. If the American tourists continue to stay away in droves then regretably VS will not survive, in spite of the current cut backs. IF this happens & with BA retrenching it will give bmi (& yes I do work for them)opportunities for an A330 operation out of LHR. I consider VS a fine Airline, but then again so were Laker, BCAL, DAN, Air Europe and a whole host of others, each in their own way. Sorry guy's, but it's hell of a tough business we are in....sentiment plays no part (If in doubt refer to the decision of the Bank of Scotland to pull the plug on Gill).
I really do think that a bmi / VS merger is a non starter. A take over of the rump of VS may occur.....but being realistic why pay good money for something that you can have for free next week?? I'm sorry to say that I do fear for the future of VS - equally I can't see BA surviving in its present form. The challenge they face is trying to get their short haul profitable...if they don't do so & damn quick then they are dead in the water.

Thought for the day - If you have a choice of being good or being lucky.....choose lucky every time.
