Miserable Bahrain Budgie

Some not very inspiring stories are beginning to float around about the Bahrain Budgie.. .The VPO has or is about to leave due to lack of effectiveness (or is it sheer frustration at not being allowed to achieve the objects of his brief?). .The PCE - whatever that is - has or is about to move on (apparently there is a cloud hanging over the claimed hours in his log book and this could affect his position as a captain.). .Morale amongst the pilots is so low that everybody who even halfway can, is trying their best to move on and there is a steady exodus.. .The inspector appointed to the company by the regulatory authority is not qualified on any of the company's aircraft and has no recent commercial line experience. He is apparently trying to turn back the clock and have Prof Checks conducted letting the candidates show off their skills at hand flying the Airbus and Boeing. No automatics no flight directors no nothing.

Get your facts straight first then start talking.

Not my facts my son

Anti Skid On 1st Feb 2002 14:01

Without wishing to be confrontational, perhaps he wants to see that they can actually handle an aircraft and not just push buttons????

Rogan Josh 2nd Feb 2002 14:16

Sorry to be ignorant, but could somebody please enlighten me as to what the " Bahrain Budgie " is. Thanx..

2high 2nd Feb 2002 14:48

Rogan - it is Gulf Air. How that name came about is the Falcon emblem on Gulf Air aircraft tails - sometimes refered to as a budgie.. .As for the inspector wanting to see some hand flying - as Anti Skid says - what is wrong with that??? Basic flying skills may have changed a few things of the past.

BAE146 2nd Feb 2002 15:02

a new ringmaster in the wings for the greatest show on earth - well in the ME anyway!

Well!!!! this is the RUMOURS and news thread after all.

I don't know where these one's came from but their every bit as good as the recent one about GF bringing back Tristars

One thing is for sure, there are always lots of rumours and theories kicking around about the "Golden Budgie" (to give it it's proper name). .IMHO I would not take these seriously.

Is'nt it nice to know that in this world of shifting goal posts and uncertainty that things have'nt changed in the land of taxis with orange bumpers.

2high 10th Feb 2002 18:05

The musical chairs continues and continues. The shadow management are now in - for how long who knows.

OmanOne 11th Feb 2002 16:52

a'right, a'right, a'right. 1st, PCE stands for; PRESIDENT & CHIEF EXECUTIVE). aaaand he's full power back fly'n. was stoped due to "NOT ENUGH ROSTERED DAYS OFF". 2nd, the white boys who were running the show down here prove to be in the same shoe as ENRON management!!! the verdic was; "it's time to kick some German A55", but, keep the DLR which is the only thing gonna remind us of them .The same old local management is back. 3rd, the little old white dude frm DGCAM (authorities), has NO F%$#@#G clue about aviation,. he was used as a little step on stone for those LUFTHANSA advisesers... :) . otherwise OK

2high 12th Feb 2002 08:34

OmanOne: Didn't your mamma ever tell you to use a capital after a full stop.

Wake up and smell the roses - they won't be around for very much longer!!! German A55 or not.

Dr. Hibbert 12th Feb 2002 13:11

OmanOne, might it be because the "white boys" naively tried to put a stop to rampant incompetence, laziness and nepotism?

Attitudes like yours are exactly why GF is in so much trouble.

Georgeablelovehowindia 12th Feb 2002 14:35

I think the "Budgie" bit comes from the occasion when one of Sheikh Isa's entourage boarded an aircraft with a live, hooded falcon on his arm. As she came round with the coffee, one of the stewardesses quipped "Does your budgie talk, then?" This was back in the F27/One Eleven era, so when Gulf Air adopted the Golden Falcon emblem, it was instantly dubbed "The Golden Budgie" by the crews.

BahrainLad 12th Feb 2002 14:46

Although since 1990s it's been called 'The Brass Budgie' - lost the golden shine a bit.

Donkey Duke 13th Feb 2002 07:41

Bahrainlad,

Well, atleast you still get to fly into LHR. That must make up for some of the crap you have. .to put up with, right? It could be worse, GF could be locked out of LHR and you could only fly into LGW. That would be sad.

Thanks. Donkey Duke

BahrainLad 13th Feb 2002 16:28

Ahh, but Donkey Duke, British Airways have traffic rights between Gulf Air member states - and they directly compete (for example on BAH-DOH and AUH-MCT).

You give a little and you get a little I suppose.

Maybe a certain North American government could take note!? :) :) :)

sirwa69 13th Feb 2002 18:27

Dr Hibbert

In your list of things wrong with Gulf Air you forgot the most damaging

. .Massive Corruption

strobes_on 14th Feb 2002 06:10

With EK in such a strong position, has GF got a real chance of long term survival, given all the management problems, shareholding by 4 separate states etc etc.

It used to be a great company.

RG 14th Feb 2002 18:49

Perhaps sirwa69, that is why the accident report for GF072 is not yet released? It has been rumoured many times that its release was imminent so there must be something serious to continue to delay publication nearly 18 months after the accident. Anyone know what's causing the hold up?
