Post Vampire..

Somebody help me please! I'm less than a fledgling in terms of pilotage so you might say these things shouldnt worry me and yet there it was..right in front of me, the thing that doesnt happen except in the films or on the news..the Vampire just fell out of the sky from behind the Sea Vixen and went straight in...I could not believe it!! Anyone else see it? Sorry, still traumatised, just need to talk to someone about it.

Spend enough time around aircraft and that's something you'll see once or twice. Sometimes you lose friends.
It's not something you get used to easily or something you talk about much.

You have my sympathies.

It has been my misfortune to watch 10 aircraft hit the ground at airshows over the years. Each episode took a long time to fade. And you never actually forget them.

But I have to say that as the issues of old age start to unfold, the idea of a premature short sharp end, while engaged in ones favourite pastime, does not seem to be all bad.

Red face

Are you refering to the Vampire that landed with it's gear up at Biggin Hill this morning ?

If you are, hardly very dramatic...made a real cock-up of the display though !!!!

A Vixen had a gear failure.

Later in the day a Vampire crashed killing both onboard

From the pall of smoke on the news ten minutes ago I think it was more than just a gear up landing. I take it the crew didn't get out. Bad news.

The Vampire dived in killing 2 on board.

Gutting to see as always.

God rest.

One wonders that displaying old aircraft really is too dangerous.

One still salutes those that do so.

I feel certain you have your facts wrong. Two pilots have died in a Vampire (not Venom) crash. This being so, I suggest your post is rather flippant and therefore distasteful in the circumstances. I respectfully suggest you withdraw it, old bean.

Horrible day - tragic result.

But let's be fair; according to the news servers on the Web there were two incidents, one unfortunate and one tragic. That will explain what otherwise looks like disrespect. I think that it is just a misreading of the news.

All the same - a horrible day.

Tragic indeed.

(Give JB007 a break, I feel it was a genuine mistake and he probably feels pretty bad now, I am sure that we have all done it!)

It is very sad indeed. My thoughts are with the crew, and their friends and family.
I do not think that JB007 has heard the bad news, I think he thinks we are talking about the gear failure there today!

Just read the post. Once more, a couple of people just trying to share their joy of flying with those on the ground. A great shame.

Don't need two threads on this topic and I will close this one. Please refer to http://www.pprune.org/ubb/NonCGI/For...ML/014125.html which was started earlier.

For those of you who are offended by some comments please realise that the poster may not be aware of the second more tragic incident and i would ask that you refrain from trying to moderate this or any other thread by misconstruing others intentions and then interpreting them in your own way. It only leads to confusion and eventually causes threads to be rapidly closed or moved elsewhere because the content is no longer relevant to the topic title.
