Sign of the Times..... Progress??
It is reported that the flight of the replica Wright Flyer, due to hop along the Kill Devil Hills on Dec 17 1903, to recreate the famous event for the centenary, has been banned by the FAA.
This is because:
1. The replica has no two-way radio;
2. It has no transponder;
3. It cannot file a flight plan.
Good grief.

some weeks ago Channel 4 or 5, whichever has 'Scrapheap Challenge', did one from the US for the Wright's Centenary. The object was to build an aircraft from scrap, and fly it. There was an FAA inspector on hand to give it an airworthiness certificate once he was happy. No signs of transponders etc, and the British entry flew up to about 500' in the circuit.
(The US and French entries, alas, did not make it off the ground. Shame.)
