There will never be a hijack-proof aircraft
If this event has shown us one thing, it is the folly of thinking security at airports can be made airtight.
These guys hijacked four airplanes and killed thousands of innocent people using razor blades and pocket knives. You canīt stop such things getting onto an aircraft. Even if you could, a hijacker could have made an equally effective weapon by smashing a glass or plate. There are also such things as ceramic blades.
In contrast to the simplicity of their actual weapons they used, their preparations were extremely sophisticated. There is proof that these people spent a great deal of time in the US training and preparing for their attack under deep cover. Whoīs to say that this is as sophisticated as they will get? For all we know the next generation of terrorists could be "sleepers", working in deep cover. They could be working their way up through regionals to the point where one day they might legitimately be in the cockpit on rostered flights before they attack. They could be in the cockpit with you.
This is an extreme, frightening and thankfully extremely unlikely scenario but I mention it to illustrate a point. The only effective protection against terrorism is to destroy the environment that it flourishes in.
Dozens, possibly hundreds of people were involved at some level in this act of war and yet it was apparently accomplished without any leaks or compromises to itīs secrecy. It would seem that the conspirators were so sure of their divine mandate that they feared no retribution.
Our reprisal should destroy this conception. If these people are not prepared to respect our peaceful, multi-cultural and multi-ethnic societies then they should learn to fear them as they fear the wrath of their own Gods.
