Pilot killed by falling rock on Mt Rainier

Read the story on C.N.N., pilot Ed Hommer...flew with him on the Shed 360 as my first officer in 1985, a person who never let his physical challenge (double amputee) affect his ability to do his job as a professional airline pilot. A great loss to aviation, a true professional, and an inspiration to the physically challenged as well...he was training for a Mt Everest expedition.

I find it weird that he was featured in this month's AOPA Pilot magazine.. just a weird coincidence...

Ed Hommer was a FO for American Airlines

He reached within 3000 feet of the summit of Everest last september. I never met him, but he is an example for all. Along with the september tragedies, military service, accidents and illnesses, AA has lost many great individuals who were examples for us all.

May they all climb high and fast and never stop

Ed Hommer was an inspiration to us all, including those (like myself) who never met him.

I am shocked and terribly saddened by this event, and I know he will be greatly missed.
