Too many sumo wrestlers

Not sure if this rather long and detailed article can be translated into English, but a recent domestic Japanese flight to Amami Oshima (one flight a day) could not take off due to overweight wrestlers and balance issues. Just four of them weighed 450 kg between them. Another aircraft had to found at short notice.

Google Translate is rather good now and seems to work well for Japanese -> English

I couldn't get it to work for some reason translating the whole web page, but within Chrome the translate option worked fine. Right-click, Choose Translate.

OK. It was my blocker, unusual.

Try this for English, any browser.

My luggage was heavy too...

In fact, the players' luggage was heavier than expected.

When we interviewed the players, we found that they wore large-sized clothes and brought plenty of bath towels to wipe their sweat.

Jimjim, that's brilliant. Many thanks! Not perfect, but close enough, and it saves me having to do the work.

I think I had to sit next to one of those guys the last time I flew economy class.

I may have this wrong, but I make that about 248 lb each. Less than 18 stone. I know lots of people locally that weigh more than that.

About the same as your average professional Rugby Union forward, although many font row forwards in particular will exceed it.

Herod its 990 pounds, you reversed the conversion. Its 450 kg time 2.2 for the conversion factor for a total of 990 lbs. No idea what that is in stones

My read was 450 kg each not total. According to this site the top 42 Sumo wrestlers are all in excess of 440 kg each. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_the_heaviest_sumo_wrestlers

I think you will find that that's 440lbs. But this is an aviation website, and confusing metric and imperial units happens regularly in aviation, sometimes with "interesting" consequences.

The wiki page you reference actually states:
Only wrestlers weighing 200 kilograms (440 lb) or over are included.
