JFK Question

Don’t flame the curious aerospace engineer passenger, but curious about landings at JFK...never flown in there. I was on an A330-300 from Amsterdam and was a little surprised at the rough landing but after a little looking today, seems like a tougher than normal place to land. We landed on 4R which is a fairly short runway and had a “full sock” of crosswind (not familiar with the “strength” of those socks...15 KVAS?) Approach was a Kai tak turn to final over the water, the pilot bounced it, and I as followed by very abrupt braking action. Is this normal going into JFK other than the bounce?
