Back in the day....just remembering years ago after finishing my pilots school days, 3 of us started RHS on the Lockheed 1011 with 170 hours and the other two on the 767-300 with 155TT...so, following some points of view, no-one can achieve its first job in nowhere neither anytime. Its absolutely normal starting low-time in my humble opinion. No one was born with 1000TT jetime...

That sort of arrogant thinking has been going on since Pontius was a pilot. (who the f**k is Pontius some will ask) Fixing exactly what bad habits? I recall being told by a ground wallah at a RAAF recruiting centre in Sydney in 1951, that the RAAF preferred to recruit their trainee pilots with nil flying experience so that they can learn the proper (military way) to fly rather than carry over "bad habits" from civilian flying schools. IMHO that is utter rubbish turned myth; yet still believed by some.

Fortunately for this budding pilot, I completed ten hours in civilian Tiger Moths including two hours of solo before joining the RAAF. That early civilian experience helped me enormously during my initial Tiger Moth flying in the RAAF. It also increased my confidence which in turn helped me avoid the fate of several trainees on our course who joined the RAAF with no flying experience and were scrubbed for a perceived failure to learn to fly and go solo inside 12 hours.

This turned out not to be their fault but their rotten misfortune to have screaming skull instructors.

One airline which is expanding at an alarming rate is THY. I was only the other day wondering where they are getting all their pilots from and with what levels of experience. I know not the answer but would be interested in knowing a little on that subject.
