Is this the chance to redress management incompetence??
Is the WTC attack being used as a means of market adjustment ?
Consider that BA was already "downsizing" on the Atlantic and that Swissair and Sabena were in deep financial trouble.BMI ordered their 330s in the hope of getting LHR rights.Air NZ were seriously overstretched financially.Who will be next ?
So is this the opportunity for managers who have seriously overextended the company's exposure to haul things back at the expense of the crews they hired ? Discuss.

The short answer is YES, now time to question....but it will do NO good as the big boys already have their share from the US taxpayers. In Europe.....lots of luck.
In the airline business...money talks, BS walks.

Huck
that's a stinker of a post, even if UAL didn't lose two on Sept. 11.
To suggest anyone who works in the airline business in the US had such a thing even as a joke is distasteful.
However, over here I'm sure the Kings of the lowcost, Mick and Stelios, have wall to wall lifesize portraits

The details of the bail-out are still not settled. One possibility is the US government taking some sort of equity in the companies that receive aid. Could put a stop to some excessive management salaries. Doubt if the politicians would like it if their shares are going down while the CEO's pay goes up. Unlike the weak Boards of Directors the government could probably get some action. In fact, when you think about it it is a bit like putting yourself in Chapter 11 bankruptcy but without the judge.

address management incompetence - yes...the 'model' is always changing and those who didnt spot it or move quick enough got caught...
also address restrictive and inefficient labour practices...inefficient staff members etc. etc.
there is not just 'management' in an airline...

More yuckspeak!
Vanity, incompetance and empire-building have resulted in bloated and inefficient management practices. These overpaid "professional" managers are each convinced of their individual indispensible contribution. How can BA possibly need 600+ senior managers? Imagine how many more 1000s of middle managers are frantically justifying their existence/importance.
