Smells from the forward toilet often find their way into the Airbus flightdeck, unfortunately . I wouldn't be surprised if the source was a lady's nail varnish or similar being used in the loo.

And on the 707 we put napkins around our collars to help stop the rush of, often very smelly, condensation that sluiced us on landing.
I've always though aircraft are just one giant flying septic tank....Ooops! I hope nobody is eating their supper

Toxic Air Detectors v's Human noses?

http://www.aaib.gov.uk/cms_resources...n%205-2013.pdf

Page 24: "During the tests the cabin air quality was assessed by an electronic analyser."

Airsense oil fume detector

With a 'fume event' occurring in 0.05% or 1 : 2000 flights why are countless aircrew and passengers STILL relying on the human nose to detect neurotoxic oil fumes?

To continue to claim "no explanation for the odour or symptoms experienced by the crew could be found" is being economical with the truth and doing known, immeasurable damage to human health.

If the passengers knew the reality of how their health was also being risked - they wouldn't believe it.

Dutch TV 'Poison in the cockpit'

Bral - another form of poisoning is from toxic oil fumes as shown in this Dutch TV programme from 9th May 2013 'Poison in the cockpit':

Afleveringen: ZEMBLA

How about toxic air detectors which could tell the crew and passengers which type of poison they are breathing.

Formaldehyde or Organophosphates?

Here is more information on organophosphates and the known effects on human beings.

http://www.aerotoxic.org/download/do...ocol031909.pdf

The Dutch are measuring background levels of organophosphates - even on so called 'normal' flights - as shown at the end of the programme.

Good luck to everyone who flies, breathes poison in a confined space and then can't work out the cause of their ill health.....

Jet engine oil fumes causing damage since 1950's

Bral,

Jet engine oil fumes have been proven in a High Court of Law to CAUSE chronic ill health.

East West Airlines v Turner - appeal dismissed ... twice

It took 18 years to prove (1992 - 2010) - however the issue has been known since the 1950's - so goodness knows how many people's health has been wrecked since bleed air was first used?

http://www.aerotoxic.org/download/do...leed%20air.pdf

I'm sorry you are one of the many - officially your ill health doesn't exist....as any admission would cause serious problems for the health of the airline industry.

Officially there is 'no evidence'.

Richard Feynman's famous conclusion to his report on the shuttle Challenger accident, which arose again in the Columbia accident, is:

"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled."
