Seems like someone in Brussels finally got some sense knocked into them... Now it's up te ICAO to find a solution everyone supports... no easy task...

or are the accountants just going to see a source of extra profit....
The flying public have had it far too cheap in the near past and if there isn't going to be masses of jobs lost in the aviation industry fares have to rise.

Well if those countries outside of the EU are refusing to pay it and it forces them to delay implementation for them, then maybe we, inside the EU, should do the same.
This is utter utter madness.

Letting european airlines pay for "domestic" intra-european flights where all other airlines flying into the EU do not have to pay is a direct threat to all european based airlines that do compete on an international level. But it is right in line with the current political direction in many european countries where it is absolutely normal that politicians do their best to get rid of the european based airline business. Of course the politicians do not care when they can fly whenever they want with their military VIP transports (in my country a fleet of several A340s, A319ACJ and quite a few global express). Simply put: more taxes from european based airlines while non-EU airlines get directly financial help if they buy airbus aircraft.

They have only "suspended" this scheme for a year as they know they can't in force it. Its complete and utter tripe. Countries such as India and China would not stand for it, and furthermore its not be welcomed in America either (for obvious reasons).
They know by insisting on this stupid scheme they are likely to cut off valuable trade especially in our present ecomomic time.

People latch onto this ridiculous unproven carbon idea which any rational observer can see is just that...unproven. As the economy swirls down the toilet, more and more regulation and taxes. Yet you have something that could be a boon to you.....Shale gas/oil.
Hundreds of thousands of good jobs can be created by going full out in extracting this... Not only that, like the U.S. which is now predicted to overtake Russia and Saudi Arabia in prduction in a decade, you could have the trillions of dollars that come with it. And the cheap energy costs.
Problem solved and then then the cost cutting of the scary beuraucracies that needs to be done can be done without an endless recession.
But, people are too beholden by the pie in the sky do gooders. Take my suggestion...the solution is at hand....dig it out of the ground.

ETS as it stood up until a couple of days ago introduced a competitive disadvantage for European hub carriers vis-à-vis the likes of SIA, the US majors but most particularly the Gulf carriers.
With the moratorium, a competitive disadvantage is still there, but very much reduced. (Believe me, I’ve done the math)
