Empty Boeing 767 rolls off tarmac at LAX

The Associated Press

LOS ANGELES — A plane getaway.

An empty American Airlines Boeing 767 rolled into a fence at Los Angeles International Airport Wednesday morning.

The jet was near the hangar area. Twenty feet of the nose smashed through the fence, blocking part of a street.

An airport spokesman says there will be an investigation to see if the parking brake was properly set. The plane had been parked overnight for maintenance.

NWA did it with an A320 recently in Las Vegas. Off the ramp and over an embankment - reportedly $19 million dollars in damage.

How often do you see this in a news report?

The shoes were blown up by police

The full quote is even more astonishing:

The shoes were blown up by police, even after it was determined they were not dangerous and contained no explosives.

Wasn't that a Monty Python skit ?

Wink

I love the last bit, “Airport police are investigating the incident.”

What are they going to do, take the DC-10 into a back room and sweat out a confession?

“Alright Mr. 10, you’re trying to hijack yourself, right? Who’s in this with you? We have a witness that will testify that you getting real friendly a MD-80 in an airport bar last night!”

Keep a weather eye, boys.... Those freakin' terrorists are entering a new phase, sneaking out on the ramp and pulling the chocks while we're busy attacking shoes!

Las Vegas: Several years ago Northwest Airlines switched to "contract" maintenance there and at several other western US cities. I won't mention which other major airline got the job in Las Vegas-we all make mistakes.

Never mind the condition of many jets which come from "outsourced" (especially non-airline) maintenance facilities, which do work at very low bids and fast inspection times. You would not want any family members riding on some of these Part 91 ferry flights.

Angry

There's nothing funny about Irish terror attacks. Even when they 'go wrong' they still kill people. Are you one of those people from the 'guns' thread who thinks the English have never had to suffer terrorist attacks?

May he always be flying and straying naked through the world until death at spear-point takes him.

My curse ever upon Kubota and my blessing on Gyro Head.
