The aircraft did not land at any airport reachable, the fuel would have been exhausted by now.
Uruguay's Air Force have launched a search for the aircraft, weather conditions hamper the search however.
Initially Uruguay's Air Force reported the aircraft involved was an Aeromas Embraer EMB-110 registration CX-MAS. Later reports identify an Air Class Swearingen SA227-C Metro registration CX-LAS or CX-CLA, Air Class operates 4 Metros CX-LAS, CX-CLA, CX-CSS and CX-CLS, all in DHL colours.

The local press reports that after a full day of search, no debris or any trace of the airplane has been found yet. Surface search was hampered by high winds and rough seas; 2.5 meter waves.
Also the press reports that the last radar contact showed the target at 600 feet and 270 knots.
