Fatalities as Angara An-24 ditches after engine fire

This one is "Reaktivnyy Ooskoritel" - a Turbojet boosted export version, similar to the An-24V but fitted with a 1,985-lb (900-kg) thrust auxiliary turbojet engine in the starboard nacelle.
I can see in the video that the fire seems to be in the port nacelle but who know what Ivan has built into the port nacelle as a "counterweight" to the turbojet in the starboard one...? Maybe the additional fuel tank for the booster?

Fuel tanks are located in the wings, right where the fire seems to be on the video.
I can't imagine a fuel tank being located in one nacelle to "counterweigh" the engine in another. How would you keep the plane balanced when the fuel has been spent???

Considering that most fires end up in a complete loss, I think the crew did a good job of getting the aircraft down and saving some of the passengers on-board.

unbalanced an 24
I thought it was a APU in one engine nacelle ... not a turbojet .. I maybe wrong ..
I remember, port side as off-limits, when the APU was running .. or was is starboard ???

Yes it's a turbojet, it provides significant thrust to assist during takeoff, climb, high altitude, heavy load etc. It can be used as an APU but uses way too much fuel for that role. I think it's the only plane with turboprop and turbojet engines installed at the same time

According to prelim info from MAK they received a "metal particles in engine oil" alert and began to prepare for an emergency landing, an engine fire ensued.
The question may be asked then how come they didn't shut it down if it looked like it was about to self destruct?
