Pay what you weigh - British Airways Fund Raiser

CHARLOTTE, N.C., July 10 /PRNewswire/ -- British Airways (NYSE: BAB) today
announced a community relations fund raiser with Habitat for Humanity and WBT
Radio: 100 lucky travelers will be selected later this month to 'Pay What You
Weigh' for round trip tickets from Charlotte to London.
Winning travelers will be selected by raffle on July 31 at Charlotte
Douglas International Airport, and will then pay an amount in U.S. currency or
check equal to their weight for the round trip ticket to London. Monies will
be contributed directly to Habitat For Humanity at the time of weigh-in.
Charlotte Mayor Pat McCrory will select the winning names at the Tuesday
event.
According to Lisa LaForest, Charlotte sales manager for the airline,
"British Airways strives to be a good corporate citizen in all the markets we
serve throughout the world. This promotion, linked with Habitat for Humanity,
provides us the opportunity to both give back to the Charlotte community and
share the unique British Airways experience to London."
Judy Smith, director of development for Habitat For Humanity in Charlotte,
said, "We're very excited about this unique, fun partnership with British
Airways. The 'Pay What You Weigh' fund raising event is an excellent example
on how community partnerships with business help us carry out our work of
building homes with those in need."
WBT radio will serve as event master of ceremonies on July 31. The
station will also provide promotion support and live coverage of the event.
British Airways has a long tradition of giving back to the communities it
serves. Its 'Change for Good' initiative encourages travelers to donate their
foreign change while onboard and raises millions of dollars each year for
impoverished nations. In the United States, the airline last year introduced
the 'Promise Program,' an initiative launched with Communities in Schools that
is designed to help at-risk children.
Raffle day registration on Tuesday, July 31 will begin at 7:00 a.m. and
will close promptly at 11:00 a.m. in front of the British Airways check-in
counter at Charlotte Douglas International Airport, 5500 Josh Birmingham
Parkway. The drawing for 100 lucky winners will begin at 11:00 a.m.
Official rules for the event include, among others:
* Registrants must be 18 years or older at the time of registration on
July 31.
* No advance registration is allowed.
* Selected winners must be present to win.
* Only one raffle ticket allowed per registrant.
* Winning tickets are valid for travel for one year from date of the
event. Tickets are non-transferable, non-refundable, non-changeable and
non re-routable.
* Other rules and restrictions apply. Complete information on rules and
restrictions will be available to registrants on July 31 at time of
raffle registration.

Great fundraising idea. On this basis (assuming measured in lbs), most of the doughnut & hamburger scoffing entrants would end up paying twice the normal fare for a Charlotte-London ticket!
