Question Ansett Sale Falls Through

It was reported this morning that Tesna have walked away from the Ansett sale. The Administrators have until 4 March to find another buyer otherwise the airline will be liquidated.

Could this be brinkmanship on the part of Fox/Leu, or maybe Virgin will come up with an offer at the last minute.....

Rumour has it that Tesa had intended to keep the airline for one or two years and then sell out to Singapore airlines. Apparently some industry analysts had been aware of this plan. Thats the reason why some of the major airports would not sign the lease on the terminals.

Another school is hinting and some gamesmanship on the part of sol/lew.

Red face

Will they operate past March 4? Can they continue to accept losses at current levels?

Surely the Administrator has to pull the plug! Don't they?

Could be right Denzil..

Per my previous thread on same subject, there is not enough pax traffic to warrant a third major carrier in Australia. QF has over 75% of the market and Virgin Blue have just announced $16 M profit in first year

If RB is planning another bid though he had better have deep pockets......

If I have understood properly what I have read and heard there are a few would-be buyers but they are all frightened off by any liability to pay workers entitlements at the level that is being asked and to as many as 12,000 workers, assuming any new operator would keep 3-4000.

I would have thought that having Mr.H.(latterly with a well known UK carrier)at the helm would have guaranteed the success of this venture!

Unhappy

Everything Skippy, aka Mr H touches, goes into a can of worms! Why doesn't he go out and get Jo Moore's job? He do well at that!

Legolas, whilst not in ANY way agreeing with your ignorant (add ten expletive deleteds) post, I think it's probably worth adding to it that if you thought the last big wave of 'reverse migrants' 12 years ago had a (for you, hard to believe) hard luck to tell, this next mob will stretch even the most believing listener's credulity beyond the limit.

Need I repeat that the wave of reverse migrants 12 years ago that offended your sensitivities so much woulld never have happened if . .(a) the Brit 'summer holiday brigade' charter pilots had stayed home and not gone out to Australia and. .(b if this new lot of 'potential exports' from Australia had shown even a semblance of backbone and restrained themselves from becoming that unmentionable four letter word, lately amended to 'hero'.

Back to Point (a), I think the parallels between the Australians who came to the Old Dart post 1989 and the many people from the Subcontinent who now call England home are striking , ie, We're here now because you came to our country uninvited in the first place.

In closing, Legolas - get a damned life and look at the right of abode and pasports of the so-called 'Australians' now working in the UK and you'll find they're all Brits under the laws YOUR government drew up. Unlike the unmentionable scum who went to Australia in 1989, some of whom will now return to the UK with UNBELIEVABLE hard luck stories - and 'unbeliebvable' because the are.
