BBC NEWS | Scotland | North East/N Isles | Helicopter ditches in North Sea

Crew and Pax on these are normally well trained in such events. Fingers crossed for the right outcome

Glad to report that all 18 passengers have been rescued with no serious injuries. Kudos to the RAF Kinloss Nimrod and RAF Lossimouth rescue heli as well as the 2 Bond Helis that assisted in the Search & Rescue op. A job well done.

Splendid news that all safe and well. Great effort by the infield choppers and the boys from Lossie. In case some of you are puzzled to read on the news websites that "offshore choppers are fitted with lifejackets"!! Just for the record all pax and crew are wearing survival suits and lifejackets. The pax are also wearing a rebreather self rescue set (a mini aqualung) which enables them to swim and breath underwater if this is necessary to escape from an upturned hull. The users of this kit are tested before flying offshore and re-tested every four years thereafter. There also are two life rafts and a number of beacons/flares. No pass offshore survival course---no fly.
All worked well tonight.

PAX picked up by Caledonian Victory Standby vessel, according to AIS she was at the BP Lomond location.

Excellent news that all got out safely.
