Manchester TMA

Due to a fire alarm the lower floors of the tower at Manchester were evacuated which included the TMA people. False alarm and all seemed back to normal after about 20 mins.

It's happened twice during one shift pattern. It's SOP to evacuate none essential personell, [people on a break] and to stop deps from parent a/fs [and Manch, of course] in case of a "Full Evac".
Hope this helps

Yeah we were the last aircraft to land before the approach controllers scarpered from the building - we were told that in the event of a missed approach we would need to fly a visual circuit due to no radar! Unfortunately the aircraft in front of us vacated promptly so we were denied the opportunity by the time we had taxxied in the alarm seemed to be over.

Ah Penworth, missed an opportunity there. Still it was a nice landing. No base jumping required.
