New BA 757's
Heard from 3 sources now, most notably from engineering that BA are preparing to purchase up to 10 757's, I guess of the -300 variety. Seems strange since they are sellin a load at present! Still, hats off to the fleet planners for another truly remarkable turnaround should the rumour have any substance!

Rumour I heard was that they have finally realised that the A319 is a bit too small, so they went to Airbus and said can they change some future orders to A321s. Airbus said "Oui, but get to the back of the queue and we shall see you in a couple of years" Hence sudden need for bigger shorthaul aircraft.
Suddenly realising that they already have the setup (pilots, engineering, etc) for 757s, in their infinite wisdom they are rumoured to be leasing some more 757s (models unknown).
Rumour supported by the fact that planned training and route cutbacks have not been implemented yet.

It’s enough to make you weep, isn’t it? Once again, if they’d listened to their staff in the first place we could have avoided this stupid mistake. We might be forgiven for believing that the only reason that the lowly esteemed Ayling Bob bought the Airbuses was because he was hoping to become ‘Sir Bob’.

Thunderbug,
You could well be right but I understand that the options package they have allows a LOT of flexibilty and a severe lack of queuing. The GB A321s were bought using BA's options on them and they didn't have to wait for too many days for those to arrive.
As far as I can establish, the A321s are almost a foregone conclusion, the 319s are proving too small on some of the routes and may well be switched for 20s or 21s. The intial batch (6 or 8?) 318s have to be bought as part of the launch customer/737-500 deal that BA struck up with Airbus. These are still going to MAN, so it shouldn't affect the price of fish too much, but I'm willing to bet some of those 318 orders are switched to 319/320s.
I loved the 757 but now BA has gone down the Airbus route it seems mighty silly to me to have 17 757 E4s and 69 Busses. They may as well just convert/add some A321 orders and do away with the better aircraft ( )altogether.
I'm very often wrong (as is the whole of the Waterside) about fleet plans etc but I hadn't heard or seen any eveidence of the 757-300 coming BA's way. 767-400, yes, but no 757.
Interesting times as ETOPs often says on another forum!!!!

I've also heard rumours re. the 753...
However, I fall asleep saying goodbye to the Pax getting off a 752, and am sure they are getting back on again at the back! The thought of a 753 load trying to disembark thru' 1 door....
I do recall Boeing having to do some dodgy tests to persuade airlines that the t/r time would not be a problem - no doubt involving lots of fit small people who conveniently had checked in all their hand baggage...

Thanx for your wise words - Had not made the connection about GB getting 321s. I too can see BA going totally Airbus in shorthaul, but with the plan to reduce to 34 757s by September, I think those days are some way off. 753 would be interesting (mind the tail!)
What do you know about 764s? I know the ol' 763s are going to be fitted with club beds and sat nav/com before going to LHR 2002/3, are there serious(?!?) rumours about -400s

I thought the whole idea of the A-319 was so BA could cramm em full of Biz class passengers and thus raise their yields!
The plebs at the back werent even a consideration.
Dont tell me BA's now reverting to geting the masses back on board?
|Seems post Ayling they've come back to the real world!

In the BA 757s I fly in, there are an awful lot of C class pax filling most of the plane, and not many plebs at the back. Even the unpopular ‘E’ seats are mainly filled. If they put A319s on those routes, they’d be pushing C class pax on to competitors’ a/c unless they manage to bump up the frequencies into a saturated LHR. Doesn’t make a lot of sense to me.

They were doing the same with a 319 on the Friday evening CPH-LHR run. It was booked solid nearly two weeks before every week in both C and Y, and thanks to that some passengers (me included) are now flying with competition.
The 757 is now back on the route I'm told, but I'm not going back. Big Airline's loss.

flaps:
Condor has operated one of their B-757-300 on the FRA-MUC route, but no results were published. I am certain that with no ULDs, only one aisle and at most airports, only one door used, this is not a perfect fit for the high frequency short turn-around trips, but which aircraft is there today on the marked?
For the time being, LH have converted the medium-haul A300-600 to short haul and have added one bought from Emirates second hand.
