If you work in the Medical field - Most reporting is inaccurate
If you work in the Emergency Services - Most reporting is inaccurate
If you work in Politics - Most reporting is inaccurate
If you work in the Armed Services - Most reporting is inaccurate
If you work in the Financial Services - Most reporting is inaccurate

Should I go on....

One could add a few dozen other categories to SLFguy's list. My field is shipping (as in cargo ships) and there's as much crap written on that subject as on aviation. Far too much bandwidth wasted on it. Cyclic Hotline started a thread back in 2002 (Jet Blast/Ridiculous Aviation quotes in the media); why not just dump anything related to the shockhorror press there?

There is great truth in the idea that journalists seem to not know anything about planes, or anything else.

So, as consumers and aviators, we should take everything with a grain of salt.

so, it would be nice if PUBLIC RELATIONS folks working for airlines or the FAA would not distort the truth.

so, the bigger question is , "what do we do as pilots to make sure the truth is reported"?

Now, I don't have a clue.

We can't just run down to the local tv station and start yelling.

maybe someone else has an idea!

Cool

How about asking your managers and chief pilots to book themselves some training, and shove themselves in front of some cameras when things go awry..?

You don't have to be Toby Nichol to make it happen...

But it helps!
