Is it possible for forum monitors to explain why they "lock" threads, or let us know where they've been put ? I think I know why most are closed or moved - wrong subject or just going nowhere.

I can't understand why the Plane Crash at Liverpool Airport thread was canned, seems to fit the Rumours and News forum IMHO.

You'll find it's because it is repeat of a topic already under discussion in this case. If the poster of the "Plane crash at Liverpool" thread had looked, he/she would have noticed the "Spanair MD-80 Incident at LPL" already running.
