A jetliner preparing for take-off at Rome's Leonardo da Vinci airport has nearly collided with an airliner which was set to land on the same runaway.

None of the 200 passengers on board the two flights were injured in the near-collision, said the Italian air traffic controllers' association, Enav.

The Eurofly jet was preparing for takeoff when it strayed from its designated runway and entered the taxiing area of the Alitalia MD-80 landing from Bucharest, Romania.
