Seat-belted Engine

A rough translation of the article:

"Due to high vibration of an engine on a Chinese airliner prior to departure in China the crew decided to fix it by shutting it down and strapping seatbelts to it. The flight landed in FRA due to low fuel were this was noted by ground crews and reported."

… so much for my confidence in Chinese aviation…

Old news

Yes, it's true

IIRC, this happened in late 2002 / early 2003. Twas a freighter though so it didn't make the news big time (not a large enough potential body count I guess)

The authorities in FRA were, shall we say, unimpressed!

This has been done to death in the past. If I recall, the whole procedure was IAW Boeing Ferry Procedures - and they are not seat belts. They are specialised straps to do just what they are doing.

There is a world of difference between a Ferry Flight and a revenue flight.
