Post Passengers - don't ya just luv 'em!

Reported in the Manchester Evening News:

Fury as love tiff grounds sun jet

A LOVERS' tiff forced the captain of a holiday jet to abandon a flight as he was preparing for take off with 170 passengers on board.
The cancellation cost the airline more than £10,000 - and left the rowing couple needing a police escort to protect them from angry passengers.

The plane load of furious holidaymakers finally flew to Rhodes 10 hours late after being forced to spend the night in a departure lounge because local hotels were full.

There was also a knock-on, a 10-hour delay for 180 passengers in Rhodes, who were waiting for the A320 Airbus to bring them back to Manchester.

Demands

The JMC jet was ready to leave its stand at 2.30am yesterday when the woman stormed from her seat, demanding to get off.

By law, her bags had to be taken from the hold - and the flight had to be cancelled because the crew realised the extra delay meant they could not complete the flight within their permitted working hours.

Police were called to calm the 170 passengers who had to get off. But their fury increased at the departure gate, to find the sheepish woman had changed her mind and wanted to fly after all.

Police escort

Officers escorted the unnamed couple to a ''safe area'' and they were later barred by JMC from boarding a flight, which finally took the weary party to Rhodes at 9.20am yesterday.

An onlooker said: ''It must be the first time that a 'domestic' has caused a plane to be cancelled.

''The flight had already suffered a minor delay through an overheating problem, but everyone was ready to go when she stormed off.''

A spokesman for JMC said: ''It is regrettable that a domestic situation between two individuals caused a delay for all the passengers - and because of their behaviour, they were not allowed to board the aircraft when it departed.

''Although it is too early to put an exact figure on the cost of the delay, it could easily run into five figures.''

Remember when five figures could buy you a nice cozy bungalow?
