Alitalia Emergency Landing in Belgrade, Passengers "Bussed" to Sofia

Politics: 9 September 2006, Saturday.

An Alitalia flight from Rome to Sofia has made an emergency landing in Belgrade after the crew noticed smoke inside the aircraft.

Flight AZ520 departed Friday from Fiumicino Airport at 19:55, but had to request emergency landing at the Nikola Tesla Airport of Belgrade at 21:40.

All passengers on board were safely evacuated and accommodated at the Intercontinental Hotel in the Serbian capital. On Saturday the Italian aviation company organised their transportation to Sofia by bus.

No details have been communicated on the reason of smoke, even though Alitalia technicians have been investigating the plane all day long.
