CAIRO, Egypt (October 26, 2001 9:01 p.m. EDT) - EgyptAir has
consented to provide U.S. authorities with the names of
passengers on its American-bound flights, an official at the
national carrier said Friday.
EgyptAir is preparing a computer program that would feed
information about passengers to the United States as the
planes were on their way, said the official, who spoke on
condition of anonymity.
The United States has asked for passenger lists to ease
security procedures implemented after the Sept. 11 attacks
on New York and the Pentagon.
Earlier this month, Customs Service Commissioner Robert
Bonner said all airlines should be required to turn over
advance lists of passengers to allow for screening for
possible terrorists.
