BA 777 smoke / fumes in cabin - divert to BOS
Was a pax on BA184 EWR-LHR this evening which diverted to BOS after approx. 30 min with strong fumes and smoke in the cabin. Landed safely in BOS with an array of fire department vehicles waiting for us. Didn't get any real information on what the cause was; does anyone have any details?
By the way - BA crew were fantastic, did a really good job of reassuring the passengers on board, many of whom were terrified.

BOSTON (AP) - A London-bound British Airways flight made
an emergency landing in Boston after smoke or some other
kind of fumes was reported in the cockpit.
Flight 184 left Monday from Newark, New Jersey, but was
diverted to Boston's Logan International Airport, where it
landed at 8:30 p.m. (0130 GMT), Massachusetts Port
Authority spokesman Phil Orlandella said. There were no
injuries, he said.
British Airways spokesman John Lampl said sensors onboard
detected some type of «fumes,» adding that it was not
clear if it was actually smoke. After the plane landed,
engineers could not immediately determine the type or
source of the fumes, Lampl said.
The Boeing 777 was bound for Heathrow Airport, with 141
passengers aboard, Federal Aviation Administration
spokeswoman Arlene Murray said.
The crew reported seeing the smoke in the cockpit when the
flight was about 75 miles (120 kilometers) east of Boston,
Murray said.
The cause of the smoke was not immediately known, Murray
and Orlandella said. The FAA will investigate, she said.
The problem appeared to be mechanical - not security
related. Transportation Security Agency spokeswoman Carrie
Harmon said the agency is not investigating.

Hey IE Flyer, glad to hear you are all alright, the CSD from the flight has posted a message on the BA crew forum but I doubt we will have an outcome until an initial investigation has taken place.
I hope you had a few stiff ones in the hotel in BOS last night!!!
