ATC strike in Greece on Thursday Nov 10?
I spoke to soon::::::
EK2362
ATTN: AIRCRAFT OPERATORS CONCERNED WITH GREECE
SUBJECT: POSSIBLE INDUSTRIAL ACTION GREEK ATC
WE HAVE RECEIVED WORD OF A POSSIBLE INDUSTRIAL ACTION
OF GREEK ATC ON THE 10TH OF NOVEMBER. THE TIME OF THE STRIKE
HAS NOT BEEN CONFIRMED YET BUT COULD BE 24H STARTING ALREADY
TOMORROW AT 2200 UTC. HOWEVER WE WOULD RATHER EXPECT
A 4H STRIKE FROM 0900 TILL 1300 AS IS USUALLY THE CASE.
DISCUSSIONS ARE STILL ONGOING AT THE HIGHEST LEVEL AND
NO OFFICIAL CONFIRMATION OR NOTAM HAS BEEN SENT OUT YET.
IF THE STRIKE CONTINUES ALL DEPS AND ARRS IN GREECE WOULD
BE AFFECTED DURING THE PERIOD BUT THERE WOULD BE NO
PROBLEMS FOR OVERFLYING TRAFFIC.
WE WOULD STRONGLY ADVISE YOU TO MONITOR GREEK NOTAMS
OR THE CFMU MESSAGES FOR FURTHER UPDATES.

How to have a quiet day at work in ATC...
1. Let the news of a strike leak out (deny it officially, but make sure you deny it in such a way that everyone thinks you are planning a surprise action).
2. Let all the airlines cancel their flights.
3. Turn up for work and deny everything.

I have tried to find out the reason for the strike, but was not able to get any information yet.
Last time they striked (in march or April I think) it was because they wanted better technical equipment and frequencies cleared of interfearences from illegal radio stations.
If they wanted to have a day off they would have done it during the touristic season.
So just leave them alone for once with the cheap cliche of the never-working mediterranean bohemiens. You should go and visit the tower in LGIR on a Monday evening during the high touristic season.
Just let me say that I was also heavily affected by the strike.
Now Heraklion has turned into the calm provincial airport which it is from Nov-March, with about 10-20 flights per day.
So there is essentially no difference. Also the ACC and Athens airport are a lot less busy now.
