OAL147 with landing gear problem after T/O
The incident in itself is not significant. They couldn't put the gear up and after holding over KEA (unfortunately very well known due to Helios) returned and landed safely.
One question, for the B737-300 pilots. Can you dump fuel?
Because one of the TV stations insists that they dumped fuel over KEA. As I recall (I've never flown this type) the B737-200 did not. Did they change that in the next series?

The 737 Classic does not have a fuel dump facility, as i believe it is certified to land at max-take-off weight, or close to it. Was probably holding over KEA to burn some fuel off.

Boeing 737-NG do not have a fueldump possibillity either.
So if land asap is not called for (fire, engine out) the only way to get down to max landing weight is to hold.
Gear down and speedbrakes and some flaps really helps to reduce the holding time.

That's the first thing I thought too. It happened to me a very long time ago with a B727 and it is very embarrassing situation, I can tell you that!
In my case it was a short flight, so no fuel dumping required.
