Incident at Aberdeen

Fire engines and lots of medical services all over stands 1-5. KLM inbound from AMS with suspect freight/baggage. Aircraft being parked in all sorts of places due to stand closures, though flights still coming and going, may cause delays later on though.

Latest buzz round ABZ is that over 100 pax ex AMS having to be decontaminated after some sort of powder found on aircraft. Major delays to inbound baggage reclaim.

Flights not delayed too bad, mainly problems with baggage collection, having to be done infront of terminal as baggage carts cannot get round terminal due to incident. When i left at 13:30 KLM 737 parked on stand 2, many fire appliances, ambulances and police taking up stand 4, with nothing on stand 3. Also big plastic tents up on stand 4. Saw the "major incident unit" arrive at least 1 1/2 hours after it all started....

Pax were kept on aircraft for 5 hours before the all clear was given, substance turned out to be FLOUR! Airport authorities and emergency services seemed to deal with the situation well.

Was washing car and noticed fire truck pulling up and taping off adjacent block. Plod and firemen were investigating copious red fluid running from parked Merc down rest of block to drain.

Absorbent material deployed to dam substance as did not want possibly hazardous substance to enter storm drains to eventually enter Lk. Ontario and the drinking water supply.

Fire crew had cracked Merc to lift hood and check for ATF leak -- ATF dipstick showed full.

Plod musing if blood, but did not look quite right to me for that.

Eventually speculated on possibility of food dye, whereupon one fireman promptly retrieved 2 l. plastic container that had been kicked to side that was exactly so labelled

Some local teenagers much amused
