Biggles flys undone, the true cost!
When a sweet pea can turn sour!. .If you get that uncontrollable urge to urinate whilst on stopover in Cancun think again!. .En-route from Pat O Brien's to my hotac recently I was overcome with that same desire &, being a semi-public spirited person, decided to commit the act out of sight of pedro public, in the dark shadows, on the bank running down to that lagoon!. .But I did not recon on the observational powers of the Cancun police force who literally caught me in the act!. .After a short trip to the local police station I was reminded of the local laws & quickly "relieved" of $75.00 with the alternative of 36 hours, room only, at their convenience!. .The man at the police station was a very nice man but I did not get a cup of tea!. .Reminds me of the old newspaper headline-"George Michael, appearing at a convenience near you!". .. .P.S. is that Swissair captain still in jail in New York?. .. .Keep it in your trousers boys!
Considering that Cancun's night clubbing population are usually depositing far more noxious substances on the footpaths and doorways, it sounds like you got a rough deal.. .. .Not my favourite destination by any stretch of the imagination. The place even makes the youth market in Ibiza and Cyprus look like a Saga holiday. (over 50's only, for our farther flung colleages)

But did you get an official receipt for the money? . .. .The police in Mexico have their own scale of fines based upon their peception of how much they think they can rob you of! No receipts given! They will even invent "infractions" The dodgy fines are always in Dollars because they think you are a Yanky! The official fines are always in Pesos and the bill is ALWAYS in writing BEFORE you are asked to pay!. .. .A little piece of useful Spanish to learn is:. .No voy a pagar nada! which means I aint gonna pay you nothing. If that don't work then 50 Pesos (about 4 quid)usually does the trick if you give the impression that you are not going to give them more. I've known Yanks get ripped off $250 for "offences" like U turns in the street! The most I've paid is 100 Pesos (£8)and that was for a real motoring offence! A few cans of beer and a smile often does the trick in itself!. .. .I have to say thatthis rip off by police and customs officials has diminished since the new President Fox took office.
