The Consumers Association are in on the act as well. I heard on the radio yesterday that, "pressurisation on aircraft which should be kept between six and eight thousand feet, has been found to be regularly in excess of eight thousand."!!!!!!. .This is in the U.K. apparently. I can't remember ever seeing over eight thousand and today the norm is six and a half to seven. More to the point with automatic controllers it is a tad difficult to change the scheduled cabin altitude (Airbus anyway!). Why oh why is this cobblers still going around? Only recently some passenger demanded to know why we had reduced the air flow in the cabin!?*@!? Probably just put down the latest exclusive report in some joke newspaper. But honestly, this is all getting a little out of hand.

Cool

AV8R,. .. .Your obviously not aware that the weather radar transciever uses recirc air to cool itself. How many of these have you trashed by turning the fans off ?. .. .The aircraft designer/manufacturer would stipulate if this was an approved procedure, but obviously you know better ?. . . . <small>[ 13 March 2002, 13:34: Message edited by: Golden Rivet ]</small>

Some other interesting reading:. .. .The first is a publication from the National Academy Press in the US. It is "The Airliner Cabin Environment and the Health of Passengers and Crew" publication(2002) and contains much scientific analysis. It runs to over 300 pages, but is selectable.. .<a href="http://books.nap.edu/books/0309082897/html/R1.html" target="_blank">http://books.nap.edu/books/0309082897/html/R1.html</a>. .. ....comments from an academic about a US govt sponsored investigation into cabin air quality: . .<a href="http://www.mediarelations.ksu.edu/WEB/News/NewsReleases/airquality120601.html" target="_blank">http://www.mediarelations.ksu.edu/WEB/News/NewsReleases/airquality120601.html</a>. .. ....an article from an ex-hostess which is a little older: . .<a href="http://www.flyana.com/air.html" target="_blank">http://www.flyana.com/air.html</a>. .. ....and some links from a flight attendants site:. .<a href="http://www.flightattendants.org/cabinair.htm" target="_blank">http://www.flightattendants.org/cabinair.htm</a>

Anybody got a clearer idea of which areas of the 777 cabin pax have the most reported problems ??. .---------------------. .The name of the game is to keep the pax alive & have them return for more.

Monkee - You are correct, as an example I believe the B777 MEL states that you may operate the aircraft with 4 of the 4 recirc. fans inoperative. The fuel increase is in the order of 0.3% for each of the 4 fans. Perhaps one could go all the way back to basics and ask why we have these fans in the first place ?. I read an interesting article last year from a source in Germany about the " pax fainting problem " on the B777 that put forward a theory that from their research, all those affected were seated next to the fuselage and behind the engine exhaust area and all were on RR Trent powered aircraft. It was thought that there was some kind of harmonic reasonance from the exhaust of the engines being transmitted through the fuselage skin and onto the unwary passengers, as Mutt stated, usually the young and the old. Nothing more was heard from this and our local RR men could not comment.
