Hell & high water for P&W, as they are not selected for Boeing 7E7
With Rolls-Royce and GE selected as engine suppliers for the 7E7, what now for P&W large engine division?
They were confident....
""We do believe Boeing is going to do the programme and we are going to be there," says P&W commercial engine president Bob Leduc. "It's that simple and come hell or high water we're going to win." " 11 Feb '03
But they have a fallback plan.....
"The losing finalist in the three-way battle to power Boeing’s 7E7 Dreamliner will simply take the technology to Toulouse to improve the performance of a future enhanced version of the Airbus A330. That’s the opinion of Bob Leduc, Pratt & Whitney’s president of commercial engines. "
..although the PW6000 history (over three years late having initially missed spec by 6% sfc is unlikely to instill confidence in Airbus....

Don't suppose its going to help PW's credibility with Airbus with the problems they are having on the Alliance engine.
"....Engine Alliance says early progress was hampered by compressor vane issues that cut short the initial run..." (Flight Intl)
