Post "Air Controller Blamed for Near Miss"

"Two passenger planes carrying more than 300
people came "exceptionally close" because of a lack of positive action by an air traffic controller, an accident report has revealed".
For full article see link below.

Another piece of 'sensationalist' journalism per chance?

Perhaps not. Article seems to quote the official AAIB report extensively instead of the usual litany of scaremongering and inaccurate details.

I'm personally more worried about the RVSM incident over NAT last year, reported in the same bulletin.

Agree with you Moss. That was an accident which by the grace of good luck did not happen.

Question

With the decreased spacing on the NAT tracks, was this an isolated incident, or could this happen again?

Will the CAA/JAA seriousley action the reccomendations of the AAIB wrt offset tracks for overtaking?

Thought: If good fortune had not smiled on this occasion, and we had lost two aircraft, and hundreds of lives. Given the location, would we have ever established why? The Atlantic is very deep there for recovery of FDRs.

Of course a near miss is possible. I guess you guys have not flown into Philadelphia in a while. I have had more close calls there than anywhere. My co-workers say the same.
