Err....doesn't anti missile system/s for the 747 already exist? I think it does, go have a look at the US Airforce VC-25A's aka 'Airforce one'. I know some of the kit on board is sensetive and wont be sold for 'national security' reasons but the IR fit is pretty much standard for an airforce aircraft of it's size so I'm told.

Thoughts?

Red face

I'm probably stating the obivous but as a punter I actually don't find this latest attempt by Big Airline to beef up security very reassuring. If the risk (inferred) of being shot out the sky are that high, the appeal of flying an airline which has to implement these security measures declines somewhat!

Failed Misslie Attack in Iraq

The heat-seeking missiles had no chance of hitting the transport plane, which was flying at an altitude of 4,000 metres (14,000 feet) at the time, said British military officials...

This is not the first time planes using the airport have been targeted. A missile was fired at a transport plane last week, missing it by one kilometre.
Seems to be lots of hardware available, but no idea how to use it -- so far.
