Night work raises heart disease risk

Night work puts the body under chronic stress which can prompt a fatal rise in abnormal heart rythms, a study says.

The dutch study examined 49 people working shifts, including nights, and 22 people working normal dayhours. After a year both sets had unfavourable heart rate changes, but the rate was significantly higher in shift workers.

The research was carried out by Dr Ludovic van Amelsvoort based at Maastricht university.

Are there any studies about the expected length of life of pilots compared to general population, or other profession groups?
