Boeing Sikorsky RAH-66 Comanche flew on this day in 1996
Happy New Year all and on this day in 1996, the Boeing Sikorsky RAH-66 Comanche flew for the first time.
Two years later at Farnborough Air Show 1998 I saw the second prototype make its first international appearance so here are my photos albeit scans from my original 35mm https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/pprune....d0bdf41c9c.jpg https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/pprune....5243798c3c.jpg https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/pprune....78b40bc1f4.jpg https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/pprune....c9778fc278.jpg Shame they cancelled program under a decade later but as i understood the decision was a combo of rising costs / moving goalposts and the army needed the money to modify, sustain their fleet across on both frotntlines in Afghanistan and Iraq. December 35th, 1995.
An old Sikorsky joke. |
With modern lighter FCC's, and elimination of the NBC environmental requirement, it would make a great FARA now....
